How to Balance Price and Quality for Health Care
When choosing a health insurance policy it is important to take several things into consideration. You obviously want to consider the price of your monthly or yearly premium but it is equally important to understand and consider the overall cost of your policy.
For example, if you have a very low monthly premium but high deductible and high co-pay, you may actually pay more over the course of a year than you would if you just picked a policy with a higher premium.
To figure out what kind of coverage you should get, the first step is to consider your health. Are you a person who sees a doctor regularly or takes medications on an ongoing basis? If so, you probably want to get a policy with a higher premium and lower deductibles and co-pays. Conversely, if you are a person in good health who rarely sees a doctor, you may want to choose a plan that has cheaper premiums. Keep in mind though, that you never know what kind of emergency might come up. It is best not to get total bargain basement prices, but rather something in the middle.
You will also want to take into consideration the reputation the company you choose has. Are they good about paying out on claims? Do they have a history of poor customer service? Having a cheap policy does you no good if you cannot get reimbursed for claims and gets poor quality health care. It is fairly easy to search on the internet to find out what kind of experiences other consumers have had with different health care providers. Keep in mind though, that no company can please everyone. You will always see a few negative reviews.
